This is my friend Candace.  

She’s seventeen years old.

She has struggled with anorexia, anxiety, depression, ocd, and self harm since age eight, although she was not formally diagnosed until age twelve.

She has been undergoing outpatient treatment for five years, however, recently it has become apparent that it’s not going to be enough, and she began the search for a residential center.

The cheapest one she can find is $45,000.  Her insurance refuses to pay.  They see anorexia as a choice.  Her family cannot afford it.

She wants to spread awareness about eating disorders, so that maybe someone, someday, can get the help that they need, even though she cannot.

Candace is one of the most intelligent, beautiful, amazing people I have ever met, and I hope that by sharing her story here, her goal of raising awareness can be met, and maybe others will be inspired, and lives can be saved.

If you have any information on paying for residential anorexia treatment, or how to fight with insurance companies so that they’ll pay out of network expenses, please let me know so I can tell her.
